An anatomical planning model is a physical, three-dimensional replica of a patient's specific anatomy — produced from their CT or MRI imaging data at true scale, with the accuracy and material fidelity required for meaningful surgical rehearsal.

Experienced surgeons who work with planning models will tell you the same thing: there are details you do not appreciate until the model is in your hands. The spatial relationship between a tumour and a critical vessel. The precise depth of a bony landmark. The angle of approach that makes the resection feasible. These are judgements that improve with a model — and that improvement translates directly into the quality of the surgery.

Five clinical applications.

Planning anatomy models serve surgical teams across five distinct use cases — from personal rehearsal to patient communication.

Surgical Rehearsal

The surgeon physically rehearses the procedure — testing approach angles, instrument positioning, and resection geometry before the patient is on the table. For complex cases, this preparation is invaluable.

MDT Briefing

The model is used to brief the full multidisciplinary team — surgeon, anaesthetist, nursing, and allied health — on the specific anatomy and planned operative approach before first incision.

Implant & Device Fitting

A custom implant or surgical guide is tested against the physical model for fit verification before manufacture is finalised. Confirms accuracy and allows final adjustments before the patient enters theatre.

Patient Consent

The model is used to explain anatomy and procedure to the patient and family in a format that is comprehensible and meaningful — supporting genuinely informed consent for complex surgical interventions.

Trainee Education

Complex anatomy used as a supervised training resource — rare cases, unusual presentations, and high-value anatomical relationships preserved as durable educational models for the next generation of surgeons.

Rigid Resin

High-detail surgical resin with accurate surface reproduction. Suitable for surgical rehearsal, implant fit testing, and anatomy education. Dimensionally stable and durable.

Flexible Polymer

Flexible material that simulates soft tissue compliance — preferred for vascular, cardiac, and soft tissue cases where tactile feedback during rehearsal is clinically meaningful.

Multi-Colour

Up to four colour-differentiated anatomical structures within a single model — bone, tumour, vasculature, and nerve rendered distinctly. Significantly enhances planning and intraoperative reference value.

True 1:1 Scale

All models produced at true patient scale as standard — ensuring spatial relationships, approach angles, and instrument sizing are accurately represented. Alternative scales available on request.
